The story behind the song “Things That Bring Hope”
Craig says...

"As a heart-centered songwriter, interfaith chaplain, pastor (UU), and teacher-facilitator for folks living with brain injury, it’s a big part of my life’s mission to help others find hope in tough times. Of course, I too struggle in the quest – especially during these days of national and global divide all in the midst of a pandemic.
A few months into the COVID assault and well into the political warfare we’re all subject to, I led an online discussion group centered around where we find hope even in hard times. About a dozen folks whose lives had been overturned by traumatic brain injury
came up with a robust list of things that inspire hope in their lives, despite their sorrows, fear, pain, and catastrophic loss.
At the end of the session, my faith in humanity was bolstered through the resilience of spirit and transcendent wisdom in the room. I took the collected sources of hope — nature, friends, family, music, community, sunrises, front line workers and helpers included — and put them into this song. I sing it with the aim of offering comfort and inspiration to others and to myself at the same time. It’s a song that I can readily be fully present with –- not one to “perform,” but one for me to reflect on and feel, tangibly and deeply, even in the act of singing it for others.

NOTE about the CELLO: I can't express often enough or loudly enough, my gratitude for the contribution of such soulful cello from my friend and fellow artist, Cheeko Matsusaka. When I first put the cello track she sent me into the mix and listened, my eyes filled immediately. What a gift to have my song heard and responded to so deeply and beautifully.

Things That Bring Hope
My feet in the woodland, my wheels on the stone
The calm and the quiet, the return to home
The birds fill the window, the breeze wakes the trees
These are some things, that bring hope to me
The sun and its shadows, the sparkling stars
Amazement and wonder for all that we are
The promise fulfilled as each dawn comes to be
These are some things, that bring hope to me
Yes, these are some things that bring hope
These are some things that bring hope
These are some things that bring hope to me
Good people gathering differently
Doing their best with such difficulty
And, the kindness and wisdom folks shine out to me
These are some things that bring hope
The hum of the helpers, committing their lives
In service to others, their hearts open wide
The music we sway to, divine reverie
Oh, these are some things that bring hope to me
These are some things that bring hope
These are some things that bring hope
These are some things that bring hope to me
